8th March 2015: NEST organised an Induction training programme in Bokakhat Office in presence of Dr. Soumen Ray, Planning Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, of UNICEF, Guwahati. The main objective of the program was to brief the NEST team about the newly launched project called “Developing Model GPs on Children and Women” laying stress on strengthening of Panchayati Raj Institutions of Assam to uphold the issue of women and children in diverse socio-political environment under Bokakhat Block.
In his speech, Dr. Ray of UNICEF, stressed on various rural problems which are related to the woman and children. An orientation about the various child related issues and about the types of problem children face, facilities deficit in the Panchayats, and other focus areas of the project were also highlighted.
The vision, goal and structure of the project was introduced to the participants and described in details the activities that are premeditated in the select Panchayati Raj Institutions. The implementation of this project would be completed within 10 month through compilation of baseline information, training of PRI members, awareness camps, GP Level Monthly convergence meetings, training cum workshop with PRI Members, Monthly review Meetings of NEST, Block Level Convergence meeting etc. He also discussed various problems in the villages such as Health, Education, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Child Protection etc. which are the main focus components of the project.
Thus, the participants got ample knowledge of the indicator, prerequisites, activities and measurement tools of the components for the implementation of the project. It was indeed a valuable orientation for the Project Staff and participants which helped them to capture the idea about the Panchayat Raj system and the emphasis of UNICEF in the process.
