Panchayat to Approach The Supreme Court for Food Security

On 10th June 2010 a Gaon Panchayat level meeting was organized in the Panchayat office of   Boruahbamon Gaun Panchaya. The meeting was chaired by the Ms. Niru Gogoi, President of Baruabamon Gaon Panchayat. Tasaduk Ariful Hussain discussed about the food security issues in this meeting. He explained the procedure and process of the Mid-day-meal (MDM) scheme, Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), Public Distribution System (PDS) and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and the schemes in it.

Handholding support to Kakodunga BEWRF for better governance

On 4th of April 2010, a meeting was organized for the Block Elected Women Representatives’ Forum (BEWRF)  of Kakodonga Block. It was organized in Dergaon Sahitaya Sabha Bhawan where  participants from different Gaon Panchayats come together to discuss about possible handholding support to the Gram Panchayats under the Anchalik Panchayat. The meeting was moderated by Tasaduk Ariful Hussain, Executive Director of NEST.

Women Panchayat Leaders could do

In an unprecedented show of solidarity and courage women elected representatives of Negheriting Gaon Panchayats of Kakodonga Block under Golaghat district of Assam, has come forward to take over the responsibility of food security and local governance in the Panchayat. In a meeting held at Neghariting Borline Namghar from 11 AM on 8th of June 2010, around 35 community leaders gathered in the venue including Ms. Rupali Rabidas, President, Neghariting GP, Ms.

Mising Tribal Culture for Tourism at Dhuba Ati

North East Social Trust in collaboration with the ‘Dagrob’ Eco-tourism & Eco-development Society is working in Dhuba Ati village to promote it as a Rural Tourism destination since 2005. Various capacity building initiatives and tourism product development initiatives along with marketing of the site was carried out in the last couple of years.

Orientation workshop on Public Distribution System in BTAD areas

NEST is initiating a research work in 4 Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) districts of Assam to enhance its understanding on the public distribution system (PDS) supported by the Indo Global Social Services Society (IGSSS). Volunteers from these districts gathered in Srimanta Sankardeva Kalashetra, Guwahati and participated on an orientation workshop from 11th to 13th March 2010.
